Orange County Engagement Session

These are super neat because the engagement session was in California, lasted all day, and is of a super cute and sweet couple, Adele and Kevin. I flew in to Orange County on Thursday morning, and then flew out late that evening. Kevin picked me up from the airport while Adele was returning from the salon. We photographed at their home in Yorba Linda for a bit. Then we went to a vineyard for some fun and beautiful scenery. I joined them for lunch and wine. Then the wild ride to to beach. We had to hurry to catch the sun before it set. Kevin is a good driver, but I swear he has driven race cars in this or another life! (Just kidding, you were fine Kevin.)
We had a really great day.

Post 200! The symbol of the future...

The symbol our the future, expecting parents, a beautiful pregnant belly, maternity portraits full of love. How perfect that this is my 200th blog post! I met Katelynn and Ryan through some wonderful clients of mine, Sara and Chris. The are one of 'my' bride and groom couples. Sara and Chris invited Katelynn and Ryan to join us on a 'trash the dress' shoot in Sedona. I was honored when Katelynn called me to do her maternity photos. We had a great time, at their home, and then at the town of Verrado. They are going to for sure make such great parents! Can't wait to shoot little Mr. Grant when he arrives!

This shoot barely made it into 2011. The session took place at Sahuaro Ranch Park in Glendale. Amy had to reschedule twice due to various reasons, and really wanted the shoot in 2011. I thought a New Year's Eve theme would be nice for some of the photos. My daughter helped with the strategic confetti throwing as well as caring around equipment and props (thank you Kt!) We had a good time and so many images turned out so cute. Congratulations to Amy & Aaron on their engagement and upcoming wedding! And Happy New Year's to EVERYONE!

This is an engagement shoot that I did a few weeks ago. So busy that i am just now getting to it. They turned out adorable though! We had originally planned on Tempe Town Lake and Mill Ave. Little did we know, there was an ASU vs UofA game that night. Tempe was crazy busy. So we went to Papago Park and did real well there. We shot some with and without their son, Gavin. He is a little cutie pie! Then we finished it off at Tempe Market Place, which was busy but room enough for us. We had drinks, chatted, and then shot a few with drinks and the fire pit. They are getting married in the March at Villa Sienna.

This next one is hillarious-- I instructed them to put their cheeks together...guess I should be more specific next time? Ha ha!

This shot will be a great option for the photo cover on the guestbook--
it will wrap around the front and back cover...

Did I mention that I love fire? Fun to shoot and fun to build a fire too!

Aminah & Bernard, and the magic of 11!

This is my 11-11-11 wedding. I have been so busy that I am just now getting to the weddings from that weekend... but these images are worth the wait! Aminah and Bernard and family were so easy to spend time with on their day. And they have such sense of style, for starters the Ritz Carlton was their venue. And Aminah's dress and shoes were so classic and fabulous! The aisle was created from slats of bamboo, I believe that is what they said it was, and it was such a great, unique look. And the dinner was one of the best wedding meals I have ever had!

If only it wasn't all done, because I would love to photograph the two of them getting married again and again!

Reema and Adam, many days of love!

Reema and Adam's wedding (for me) was over a 3 day period. It would've been a 4 day stretch, except I wasn't available for the first ceremony in Rocky Point that took place the day before this 3 day event. (So bummed, I love Rocky Point!) They got married on a golf course in Rocky Point, overlooking the ocean on November 11, 2011 (11-11-11).

I am going to show you highlights from all 3 days. This is a long blog post, but so much to show and tell!

This is the first evening, the henna party on November 12th. It was so fun and colorful!

Reema's feet had such an intricate design. This was a design that Reema found and requested from the professional henna artist.

Reema's hands were just as detailed. Took a couple hours for hands and feet!

This little boy kept throwing his stuffed animal up and down, as if challenging me to try to capture the act...

This is day 2, the Garba event, on November 13th. Dancing, eating, mingling, and more dancing!

Stephanie & Billy tie the knot!

I use to post 20 to 30 images per wedding on my blog. This one is about 53 shots, and the last one was 50. I must really be having a great time more than ever with this autumn's weddings! Tons of favorites and fun!

Stephanie and Billy were married on October 22nd. Everything took place at the Crowne Plaza Resort in Phoenix. This group was ready to party long before the ceremony began! Read the little stories by some of the photos to hear about the day. Congratulations to Stephanie and Billy!

Our hair stylist/make up artist, Kim Macchiaroli of KLM Artistry suggested this shot. And it turned out beautifully.

During the ceremony, Billy our groom was suppose to repeat after our minister. But when the minister said 'gold ring' referring to the ring Billy is giving to Stephanie, Billy sassily said 'platinum ring' with a huge grin. And the audience was cracking up!

The maid of honor did a great job of making the room bust up with laughter. Only a close close friend can call you a cougar in front of a huge group of people!

Ok, I have absolutely no recollection of this photo-- I didn't know I got this until I started editing the photos. I promise, no bride's were hurt in the making of this photo! They obviously having fun with trying to get frosting on one another!

This wedding was back on October 15, 2011. Just now getting to blogging it-- it is a photographer's busy wedding season currently. Rachel and Jason got married at Gray Hawk Golf Club in Scottsdale. I don't normally put this many images on my blog from one event, but there were so many favorites, couldn't narrow it down to 30 like I normally do. It was a real fun wedding, as you will see in the reception photos. This was a tough one for formals, we were quickly running out of sunlight-- but we made it through! Congratulations to Rachel and Jason!

A couple weeks ago, my friend, Phaedra, recommended I go to a winery in Cornville. She meant for pleasure, not business. But I had a vision of an engagement shoot at a winery, and Napa Valley is too far away. Caitlin and Eric were excited by the idea of going, so we met up yesterday at Page Springs Cellars which is a winery and vineyard. Caitlin and Eric had been there before for wine tastings, but it was my first time. First we walked around the beautiful grounds with golden yellow leaves and autumn colors and even Oak Creek as our backgrounds. It is a picturesque place for sure! Then we sat down to share a bottle of wine, to warm up of course, it was 50 degrees there as the high and cloudy and breezy. We also did a wine tasting, which was a bad idea for me-- ended up buying 3 bottles to take home! Amazing wines, friendly service. Can't wait for my next chance to go visit there again!

Caitlin and Eric and I had such a great time talking on the patio there. Now I feel like I know them a bit, which helps at the wedding for more intimate photos. They were so darn cute in front of the camera-- see for yourselves!

Brandy, Brandon, and Ethan

This is my October 15th wedding, a Saturday morning wedding and luncheon. I did Brandy and Brandon's engagement photos (along with their son, Ethan, too) back in early June. Their ceremony was so sweet in that they both said vows to eachother and to son, Ethan. And Ethan was the ring bearer, with the genuine wedding rings on his heart shaped ring bearer pillow. This all took place out at Red Mountain Ranch Country Club in Mesa. Congratulations to Brandy, Brandon, and Ethan, too!

This is a couple whose wedding is in the spring. Can anyone guess who the bride-to-be is? She is a local t.v. personality and has an regular article with a local online magazine. These are their engagement photos. We had a great time near by to McCormick Ranch. Their puppy, Blue, was adorable. This was his first outing other than home and vet. Aren't they a cute family? Christine and Kirk's wedding was on October 8th. It was a perfect day-- not too hot, everything went smoothly, and there was one heck of a reception afterwards! Their wedding was at the Inspirador in Chandler and it was my first time there. That venue is fabulous, the decor, layout, and the service impeccable. This blog entry has the highlights of their day, and there are a lot of highlights because everything was so great! Congrats to Christine and Kirk-- hope Bora Bora was just perfect!

Amanda and Todd

This maternity shoot was very bitter-sweet. Let me explain our history-- I met Amanda when she helped with planning her sisters wedding in early 2009 (or maybe it was even late 2008?) Her sister was married in June of 2009. Amanda and Todd were engaged by the time of her sister's wedding. I was very excited-- it is always wonderful shooting with the same families again! She did hire me and I did Amanda and Todd's engagement photos in December of 2009 and their wedding in in May of 2010. We have become friends over the last couple years. They are expecting and due December 15, 2011 with Tyler Rademacher. All of this is the sweet part-- they are fun to be with and photograph, very nice, and very into artistic photos. The bitter part is that they are leaving for 3 years-- to Okinawa! Todd is being stationed there. Little Mr. Tyler will be born in Okinawa. Sad that they are leaving for so long, but know they will love their time there-- that is where my mother-in-law is from and my husband lived there for part of his childhood. They will have a great little island life over seas! Can't wait to see the baby pics, and so wish I were taking them! I am wishing you and your little family the best of everything over in Okinawa!

I have known her since I was in high school; she is the mother of my good friend from high school, Renee (Moffatt) Doeden. She is such a sweet heart, & Michael is such a nice guy too. This was Sunday October 2nd, at the Boojum Tree. Boojum Tree is such a neat place, full of rustic character, vegetation, and charm. Great place for photography and/or a wedding! Angie and Klayton found me at a Starbuck's in Scottsdale. I was waiting for a potential client to arrive, and Klayton was in line for coffee. He asked me for a business card, and we met and contracted a week later. Their wedding was small and sweet. Congratulations Angie and Klayton and families!

Spent a couple hours last week with Abby and her parents. Abby was a couple weeks old at the time of the shoot. Abby made me work extra hard-- she is one of those models that decides when we will and won't take photos. But when she would give us some nice expressions, she knew how to work the camera! She is just so darn adorable!

I caught her with her dimples showing in this next one...I am jealous, I love dimples!

Aubrie and Nathan

Nathan and Aubrie are getting married on Cinco de Mayo in 2012 (May 5th) at Val Vista Lakes. Aubrie asked if I had ever shot at Scottsdale Civic Center, and I giggled 'Lots of times!' We met up there on September 10th at sunrise to have cooler weather which worked as planned. We had beautiful light and they had fun in front of the camera. I tried some new ideas with poses, backgrounds, computer enhancing. I think I am on to something-- these are hot, right!!?

I LOVE it when the sun backlights the leaves...colors are light autumn that way, which in the valley is amazingly rare!

I can't decide if I like the color or the chocolate version of this next image. What do you think?

Dan and Virginia are just recently engaged! So here is their story... Dan emailed me months ago to inquire about shooting a proposal down in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, a.k.a Rocky Point. We met up on the sly at Starbuck's and began the planning. Virginia thought that they were going on a get away just because they needed avacation. At 5pm I was to be on the beach in front of their hotel on the lookout. He would bring her out to see the ocean for the first time (theyhad just arrived hours before) between 5:15 pm and 6 pm. I was so busy keeping an eye out for them, I didn't even see what time they actually arrived. I just played 'tourist' and was shooting everything and everyone while peeking at them out of the corner of my eye. When he started holding her hands, we started shooting. Oh, forgot to mention, my husband helped second shoot as well (THANK YOU honey!) After she said 'Yes!' I gave them a few minutes and then we went out to shoot some portraits (might be used as engagement portraits.) My family and I got to be down there for 2 nights, 3 days. We love the temperatures there, the air and the ocean water are warm yet refreshing. Rocky Point rocked as always! Thank you so much Dan for the trip-- you were both so nice to work with!

I am reposting June 25th's wedding-- so fun and vibrant! Veronica and David got married at Pebble Creek in Goodyear. Great staff, venue, food. Shoes were fabulous, bouquet and cake gorgeous. D.j. was fun and organized. Though it was hot, we all made it work into a great wedding.

I had a newborn session with Cole and his parents, Amanda & Michael, this past Sunday. Cole is just over a week old in these photos. Amanda and Michael were in the wedding party at my last Rocky Point wedding. 'Mr. Cole' wasn't much in to doing portraits. His mind was on lunch through most of our shoot, and he had already had lunch! He has a great appetite! Here he is with all his baseball paraphernalia. Such a cutie!

Many people call themselves 'professional' wedding photographers. This is my definition of a professional wedding photographer:

A professional wedding photographer is one that has vast experience in wedding photography; that knows how to shoot with all manual settings on their camera (and does so most of the time); someone that has taken wedding photography seminars and classes in the past as well as continually strives to learn more skills, styles, techniques, tricks; someone that has a natural artistic talent combined with technical abilities; someone that loves shooting brides so much, they would do it for free if they could afford to; someone that has lots of back up equipment, tax licenses, and business insurance; and finally someone that you can check references for (past clients AND vendors).

All of these things cost a ton of time and/or money to attain and maintain. So if you find a photographer that will shoot your wedding for a lot less than many other photographers, just remember the list above. You will be giving up some if not most of those qualities listed!

This shoot was by request of my daughter. She wanted photos with her boyfriend. They both love their high school, so I figured that was a great place to start. We did this back on July 22nd early in the morning. July afternoons are too hot and muggy, so we began at 6am (which is amazing for teenagers!) So here are Kt and Alonso; aren't they the cutest sophomore couple?

This next one was a test shot that ended up being one of my favorites of the morning. It shows my daughter's true sass. I mean that in a good way, Kt!

Kt thought I was testing the light still. I love the shots like this that are natural and not posed for the camera.

This is my sample panoramic flush album. I love the style and the quality, which is from Forbeyon. It is such a great way to showcase your wedding day. They measure 19" x 7.5" closed, 19" x 15" open. Forbeyon has tons of different metal cameos, leathers, fabrics. Here it is, inside and out!

Yes, You Need a Timeline!

When I schedule a wedding, I ALWAYS write out a timeline for my couples. In order to get the best images, you have to have the proper amount of time scheduled for photographs. For ultimate results, the sun needs to be taken into consideration with the timeline. The two hours prior to sunset are prime photo time for wedding photos. The hour or two after sunrise is also grand, but that just doesn't work for weddings because they are almost always later in the day. I recommend that before a ceremony time is set, discussion with the photographer about timing should happen first.

Christine and Kirk and I went to the Desert Botanical Gardens 2 weeks ago for their engagement session. I had a small fever, and it was hot, but I love how these shots turned out. The 3 of us got along great-- we took turns joking around. This first shot was one of the first shots at the main entrance-- it is one of my favorites, I had told them 'Got it-- we are done'! But they wanted to continue on... This shoot shows that you can do portraits when it is 110+ out. Just bring numerous water bottles!!

Reema and Adam

On Saturday the 18th, I shot the engagements for Reema and Adam. They are getting married in November at Stonebridge. We went a lake by their house for the first part of this shoot, and then we went to Arizona Grand for the rest. Adam was a trooper, considering all the outfits that Reema had brought along to wear!

Josue and Maria

Josue and Maria were wed on June 18th at St Anne's in Gilbert. Very small and intimate wedding, my favorite kind because it is so relaxed compared to larger weddings. We started out early morning at Maria's house, then went to the church for a 10am ceremony. We did some formals inside at the church, and then headed out to Mesa Center for the Arts for some more formals. Lunch was at the Landmark in Mesa, which was fabulous. Later in the day we met back up at Tempe Town Lake for some more formals with softer lighting. Did you keep track of how many locations we were at? 5! Long day but good day. Congratulations to Josue and Maria!

Through the entire luncheon, they had this two piece orchestra playing us classical music. Everyone especially loved the Andrew Lloyd Webber songs.

This was a really fun engagement shoot. We started out with ice cream at the Sugar Bowl in Scottsdale. Then went to what I like to call 'the walls'. And finished up at Scottsdale Civic Center. Ethan was a great little ham for the camera! Their wedding is this October at Red Mountain Ranch Country Club.
